The Department of Anthropology (DAN) at the University of Brasilia (UnB) comprises one of the liveliest and stimulating academic communities at the University. Throughout the years, the Graduate Program in Social Anthropology, an integral part of DAN, has from the beginning got the highest score in the evaluation of the Ministry of Education’s Coordination for the Development of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES). The great majority of graduate students have access to funding for research and participation in scientific meetings. Moreover, they have at their disposal offices equipped with computers and internet, and one of the best anthropology library collections in the country. A well-trained student body reflects the combination of a number of factors, namely, the quality of teaching and research, a highly qualified faculty with extensive academic production, and a good physical base. As a result some of our students have been awarded a number of major prizes in the country. Together with the Department of Sociology, DAN also offers an undergraduate course in Social Sciences. Undergraduates in this course can choose to pursue a degree in Anthropology, Sociology, Social Sciences, or a teaching career in these areas. All these courses have been continuously well rated by different evaluation means.
